Bosch

The Bosch Group is a leading global supplier of technology and services. The Group comprises Robert Bosch GmbH and its more than 300 subsidiaries and regional companies in roughly 50 countries. In the areas of automotive and industrial technology, consumer goods, and building technology, some 271,300 associates worldwide - 112,300 of whom are located in Germany - generated sales of 46.3 billion euros in fiscal 2007.

To further expand its international business, to strengthen its business sectors, and to build up forward-looking business fields, Bosch made capital expenditures of some 2.6 billion euros in 2007. Two-thirds of this sum were allotted to automotive engineering. One major project is the new semiconductor factory for eight-inch wafers in Reutlingen, costing a total of 600 million euros. Apart from this, Bosch invests substantial funds in the expansion of capacities for common-rail diesel technology, gasoline direct injection, drive technology for wind turbines, electric heat pumps, and solar thermal systems.

Innovations are an essential basis of the company's success. Each year, Bosch spends more than 3 billion euros for research and development. More than 29,000 associates work on new and improved product and manufacturing technologies. In 2007, the company filed 3,281 patent applications worldwide. Not only in terms of sales, but also in the number of patents, Bosch is the world market leader in the automotive engineering sector.

In 2007, Bosch spent more than 225 million euros for the qualification of its associates. The development of specialist and managerial staff is geared to increasingly global demands. Around the world, more than 6,000 young people are receiving first-rate occupational training at Bosch, of whom 4,400 are located in Germany.

Bosch is active as founding member of the initiative "Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e.V." (Knowledge Factory - Companies for Germany) in the areas of education and entrepreneurship. Throughout Germany, the company already maintains 46 educational partnerships with kindergartens and schools.
